Just a stab at this - could be a 'ghost' version of the running of the app that memory did not properly get cleared when you terminated the app.
Also, it might be related to resident programs & their load order; also do you have hotsync.exe set to be loaded every time you have the desktop start? Use taskmanager to end the program & you might want to fool your computer into using a new desktop s/w install. Just rename the C:\Programs\Palm to ...\PalmOrig or something like that & reinstall & pay attention to the settings relating to when hotsync is loaded i.e. always, or when desktop is opened, or manual (I think those are the options)
Good luck & let everyone know how it works out.
p.s. you can always use a file manager to copy your old pda synch files into the new instance of desktop & delete the old one once all looks good & you have all you'll want to keep.
Maybe you'll have to

ok now nothing is working not the desktop program or my ability to hotsync... the strange thing is that within safe mode the program turns on just fine... it freeze when i click on media but the program itself runs fine? tomm i might reformat... i just rebuilt her so the loss is minimal... but if i could avoid it im open to any sugestions... i thought maybe it was a conflict with sp1, what i am currently running... im sure (at leats with my limited knowledge) that it is a software conflict somewhere... i just don't know whre or why it would be happening now...
Thank you guys for all your help... you guys are truly amazing!
Im still open to any suggestions
