Upgrading or Sync several Palms on one computer
Your C:\Program Files\palmOne folder is where you sync to.
a) If you are upgrading rename this folder to something like C:\Program Files\palmOne_Old.
b) Install your latest version of Palm desktop, now in C:\Program Files\palmOne.
c) Copy any subfolders in C:\Program Files\palmOne_Old (contacts, notes, memos) you want to sync on the new Palm to your new C:\Program Files\palmOne.
d) Sync your new Palm and you are set to go.
The big thing you need to pay attention to here is that you do not copy any incompatible apps from one device to another like HiRes to LoRes hardware.
To Sync several Palms on the same computer
Again, your C:\Program Files\palmOne folder is where you sync to.
I’ll use the Palms I have and sync on the same computer as examples here. KEEP the same sync name on all of the Palms you sync for many reasons. I’ll not go into why but, think about it and you’ll figure it out.
My first Palm years ago was a Palm Vx;
C:\Program Files\palmOne_PalmVx
I then got a Zire 31
C:\Program Files\palmOne_Zire31
Then 72
C:\Program Files\palmOne_Zire72
Then E2
C:\Program Files\palmOne_E2
Then TX
C:\Program Files\palmOne_TX
To Sync any of the Palms I rename that specific folder back to C:\Program Files\palmOne, plug in that palm and sync it then rename the folder back. I copy the most recent subfolders to each other Palm folder as I desire. All information from Docs to Go, notes, memos etc. are the same on all Palms. The only thing different are the device specific apps. I use Backup Buddy to back all except the Palm Vx to the each Palms SD Card. I have plenty (over a terabyte) of disk space so I do not worry about the duplicate Palm Desktops. I have three 8 port USB hubs so I have all cables/cradles labeled for quick use.
This is a quick and painless way to update/sync two or more Palms with little effort. By doing it this way everything is handled correct in Windows XP. The registry info for Palm Desktop does not care what Palm you have plugged in.
