I’m a frustrated gadget guy because I live with SF Bay Area traffic and my current car navigation system doesn’t take into account traffic which means it is almost useless. When asked if people would be interested in a navigation system in their car that would tell you the fastest route to your destination based on current traffic information. http://www.vizu.com/vote_poll/Business/Grab-bag/Current+Events/Technology/Shopping+%2F+Products/Domestic+US/gps/garmin/magellan/.jsp?n=2801&cId=48 79% of people said they were very interested...so how much longer until this is in our cars?

There are a couple cars that have nav systems with this feature built in, but I dont think there are any aftermarket units that can do it.

Actually, Pioneer has an aftermarket solution which can be used with XM's NavTraffic. There are to listed on XM's website: http://www.xmradio.com/xmnavtraffic/solution_availability.jsp and Pioneer has a press release which describes another radio: http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pna/press/release/detail/0,,2076_4313_281602044,00.html. There is yet hope!

I'm looking at getting either a TomTom GO 300 or 700. TomTom has a service called TomTom Traffic Plus, I believe, that will give you traffic information through your GPS device.

My car in Japan would get traffic updates every 10 minutes. There were modules you could get for even faster updates. Then, depending on your settings, it would recalculate.
