To add to the freeware, some practical apps: Converter 2.2 (for converting uints of measurement), HandyShopper, HolidayUSA, Less Than Zero (timer), MyCheckbook, Npass (to manage passwords; there are others, check at freewarepalm.com to find the one that suits you), Plucker (for ebooks and RSS feeds), Sunrise to grab all those feeds.

I've downloaded TCPMP. It plays the video but no sound. I get a message that the sound portion was removed. How can I get the full version? Can you help? Thanks.

What device are you using? If it's one of the older Clie's (like the NX in your avatar), you may need that audio mod (MCA2?). Not positive, though.

Edit: Further explanation. Older Clie's didn't use the audio library that newer Palm devices use. So Cliepet created the brilliant software MCA (modern Clie Audio, I think) to translate Palm audio system functions to Clie audio system functions. It can be found at http://www.aibohack.com/clie/modclieaud.htm

If you already have that installed, I'm at a loss and hopefully someone can help you more.

Cheers!

I highly recommend the following:

Free

UniCmd - I've been using Filez for years but this app is much more powerful and it's just been made free http://www.unicmd.de/en/index.html

MyInstall - great little app to install from your SD card with need of hotsync

Soft Reset - you can reset your palm without having to remove from case and able to select program that starts automatically after reset.

Plucker - The best darn document reader out there! Also recommend Sunrise and PDA convertor as desktop companions for Plucker. Sunrise turns webpages easily into Plucker format while PDA convertor turns just about everything else into Plucker format.

HandyShopper - great app for making lists - not just groceries

Convertor - converts just about any unit of measurement

SplashID - very secure encryption for keeping all your secret stuff.

TCPMP - excellent movie player

SnapCalc- a little calculator that opens anytime on top of currently opened application and you can move it around the screen.

MyCheckbook - I've been using it for over 3 years now as my check/atm register. Still haven't found a reason to switch to one of the non free apps

NOT FREE but recommended

Rescoe Backup - is consistanly efficient and effective in backing up and restoring your PDA.

MonthPlanner - great calendar replacement app

iSpin - either the free lite version or the not too expensive full version. The best launcher alternative out there!

Aeroplayer - You actually only having to pay for the mp3 and AAC license. ogg is free (and better anyways)

I've downloaded TCPMP. It plays the video but no sound. I get a message that the sound portion was removed. How can I get the full version? Can you help? Thanks.

First be sure you've installed all the necessary files to play video and audio. Read the included help with TCPMP.

Now, are you attempting to play a Windows Media File in TCPMP? If so, that may be why it not playing the audio portion, because I don't think TCPMP fully supports the WMV7/8 file type so far. I think they also removed AAC support as well. I have had little luck viewing WMV files in TCPMP, though virtually every other file type opens perfectly, and amazingly fast!

My recommended apps:
UniCMD - Excellent freeware multi-utility application, does quite a bit
FileZ - Freeware file access, still good to have a second option
ZLauncher or Hi-Launcher - I think both are excellent launchers, both cost $
TCPMP - Did I even need to say it
BackupBuddyVFS Free - Look for it, always have an extra backup/restore option
WatchM - Very nice freeware clock that is better than the built-in app
SC-103PU - Wicked freeware calculator
PalmPDF - Freeware and still in beta, but already looking really impressive
Plucker - Freeware, along with Sunrise, to sync almost anything from the web, handles images very well in my opinion
DiddleBug - Better than built-in notepad, and freeware
CardTXT or TexT - Freeware basic txt editors, open files on the memory card
Khroma - A freeware solution to change the colors of the Palm OS interface
ZGrab - A freeware screen capture utility, saves file to your memory card
Vexed - Freeware puzzle game with good design
